MUMBAI: The financial capital of India.

  1. Mumbai was formerly called Bombay.

  •  Marathi is the local language but still Hindi and English are also spoken fluently.

  • Winters are mild in Mumbai because it is situated in the coastal region but the weather     remains pleasant.
  • Mumbai is also blessed with great amusement parks such as Fantasy land,     Tikujiniwaadi, Essel World and Water Kingdom.
  • It is India's largest city, and one of the world's most populous cities.
  •  The Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India and the many Indian companies and multinational corporations are in the city.
  • Mumbai generates more than 6% of India's GDP.
  • The seven islands that form Bombay were home to fishing colonies. 
  • The Portuguese called the place Bom Bahia, meaning 'the good bay', which the English pronounced Bombay.
    • The city changed its name in 1995 to Mumbai, after Mumbadevi, the stone goddess of the deep-sea fishermen who originally lived on the islands.
